How to treat a well with alot of iron , that plugs your pump & hose?

Well pump runs, only air from faucets. Dry well? Pressure tank problem? Any ideas?
I know the pump can be heard from 20-30 feet away even with the well cover on, if that helps. The pump could always be heard from 20-30 feet away even with the cover on, so I don’t know – doesnt sound like a submersible pump. But it might be.
