Shallow well pump TIPS
Buying a shallow well pump is not a hard thing to do, You should keep in mind how much lift power you will need and get a jet shallow well pump with enough horsepower to lift the well water up and to your house. You should get a pump that is slightly more powerful than you need, this will make it easy for the pump to lift the water and will keep the pump from wearing out over time. We really like flotec shallow well pumps here but myers and northern industrial are both great companies as well.
The advantages of a shallow well pump include the fact that it can be offset from the well, they require little to no maintenance and upkeep. Most shallow well pump models can be adapted to fit any shallow well. Not to mention the great fact that they are cheap to replace and cheap to buy. The biggest disadvantage to shallow well pumps are there lift limitations, 20 to 25 feet is the maximum you should be taking your shallow well pump to unless its rated for more. Quite a few of our pumps are stronger and convert to satisfy even 25 and 30 feet of lift. Check specific shallow well jet pump models for lift measurements.
shallow well pump Question:
How do I remove a shallow well flotec pump impeller?
Answer:
It depends on the size of the shallow well pump but it is pretty much the same. Larger pumps have usually 4 bolts or screws holding the head of the pump to the motor. Remove the bolts or screws and pull the head(discharge end) away from the motor. Then you can see the impeller that is attached to the shaft. Larger pumps have impellers attached to the shaft by a set screw. Loosen the set screw with an Allen wrench and the impeller will pull off.
Shallow Well Pump Pressure Tank Question:
Shallow Well pump pressure tank replacement?
I believe I need to replace my well tank. My pump has been short cycling every second or two when I run water. I checked the air valve on the top and as soon as I press the tip in, water spurts out. So I am guessing the bladder must have ruptured.
I dont know much about well tanks. Do I have to get the exact same type? I have a Challenger diaphragm well tank, 30 something gallons. Can I just pick up something like this:

Its a Flotec 35 gallon Capacity Pre-Charged Pressure Tank, Vertical, With 82 Gallon Equivalent
Or do I need to get something with near exact specs and type as the one I take out?
Answer:
You don’t have to get the same kind or size…. and if the 82 will fit, you should get it.
I just installed that very one in my neighbors home today, I think it’s a good tank.
You may have to do a little configuring with the lines but it’s minimal

I am having shallow well problems. I have a point driven down 32’, which was the depth that I needed to go 7 years ago, to where I was able to attach a pitcher pump and was able to bring up water freely. The well has not given me any problems until late last year when I was not getting water up at my trailer. The pump was drawing up water down where the pump is located but I could put my hand over the output tube and could hold back the water easily. This year I have no water at all with the pump. I can put a pitcher pump on the pipe and can bring up cloudy water, but have to work pretty hard at it. There is water in the pipe about 7.5’ down from the surface, which is about the height that there is standing water in the gully where the pump. My question is, since the point is in an area now with a lack of water do I drive it down further or pull it up?. Since the water is in the pipe 7.5 its well within the 20-25’ depth. Thanks for your help.
I have a shallow well at my remote & rustic cabin. It is located several miles off the grid. I’m looking for a suction well the can lift water 9′-12′ from a 1 1/2″ driven well. Currently I have a cistern type hand pump.
I’m looking for a gas powered suction pump. Or a suction pump that can run off a PTO on my tractor. Any ideas?
